Report Card Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians

As part of our efforts to be a 21st century learning school, we want to advise you about our new progress reporting procedures.
Starting next week (and over the next few weeks – hopefully by November 1st, 2010) you shall receive via email (or paper copy if you do not have access to an email account) electronic reports on your child’s marks-progress in all subjects. Each subject teacher will periodically send to you a quick snap-shot of your child’s progress. This process will help compliment the multiple ways (signing of tests, communication folders, etc…) teachers provide your child and you with information on their location in the learning process.
The staff at George Street Middle School wants you to see these grades as changeable bench marks to inform you and your child of their progress in learning. We hope more frequent and timely information will help all our students make better decisions on what they need to do to demonstrate mastery in particular units and strands.
The first set of grades will represent our early work in assessing student prior knowledge and some of the first units that tend to be of an easier nature. As we accumulate work, it is expected that the marks will reflect a truer picture of your child’s progress.
We will also have the following formal reporting periods:
- Interim Report on Student Work Habits – November 19th, 2010
- Parent-Teacher Interviews – Evening November 25th and Morning November 26th, 2010
- Term 1 Report Card – January 28th, 2011
- Interim Report 2 on Student Work Habits – April 1st, 2011
- Parent Teacher Interviews, Evening April 7th and Morning April 8th, 2011
- Term 2 Report Card – June 24th, 2011
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or email pierre.plourde@nbed.nb.ca .
Thank you for your support,

School Dance and Our Remembrance Day ceremony

Hello Everyone,

All school rules apply during school dances. Attending dances is a privilege which must be earned by students.

a. Entrance to do the dance is between 6-7 pm only and through the Regent Street doors.

b. If a student chooses to leave the dance they are NOT permitted to re-enter.

c. Students are only permitted to leave the dance when a parent or guardian is visible. Students should be picked up promptly at 9 pm.

d. Students from George Street Middle School are responsible for the behavior of their signed in guest.
e. Only GSMS students, approved sign-ins and parents are permitted entrance into the dance.

f. The administration and staff of George Street Middle School reserves the right to refuse entrance to the dance.

2) Our Remembrance Day Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday November 10th starting at 10 am in the school’s gymnasium. Every year we ask members of our community with military experience if they would be our honored guest speaker. For example: for example – last year we had a Master Sergeant address the student body on “Life as a Canadaian Soldier in Afghanistan” with a very informative slide show presentation. If you or someone you know would be interested in being our guest speaker, please contact me at 453-4160 or by email pierre.plourde@nbed.nb.ca
